Vehicles Age
Motor vehicles with a maximum authorised mass not exceeding 3,500 kg, intended for the transport of no more than 8 people in addition to the driver (9 including the driver). 18 years old
Motor vehicles with a trailer with a maximum authorised mass not exceeding 750 kg. 18 years old
Motor vehicles with a trailer with a maximum authorised mass exceeding 750 kg, provided that the maximum authorised mass of the combination does not exceed 4,250 kg. 18 years old
If the mass of the combination (vehicle + trailer) is greater than 3,500 kg , it is necessary to pass a test on a specific vehicle with the issue of a licence with the community code B96 .
Motor vehicles without trailers used for the carriage of goods, powered by alternative fuels as defined in Article 2 of Council Directive 96/53/EC of 25 July 1996 (electricity, hydrogen, natural gas, including biomethane, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG, mechanical energy stored/produced on board, including waste heat) and with a maximum authorised mass exceeding 3,500 kg but not exceeding 4,250 kg, provided that the mass exceeding 3,500 kg does not result in an increase in load capacity in relation to the same vehicle and is due exclusively to the excess mass of the propulsion system in relation to the propulsion system of a vehicle of the same dimensions equipped with a conventional internal combustion engine with positive ignition or compression ignition. For these vehicles, the driving licence must have been held for at least two years .
Exclusively in Italy , motorcycles with a maximum engine capacity of 125 cc, power not exceeding 11 kW and a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.1 kW/kg and tricycles with power exceeding 15 kW (if you are at least 21 years old)
How to obtain it:
Submit an application to the competent Civil Motorization Office (UMC). Non-EU citizens must present their valid residence permit or the receipt for the renewal or initial issue of the document when applying.
This original must also be presented at the driving test. For EU citizens residing in Italy, the certificate of registration in the registry office of the municipality of residence is sufficient.
Take a theory exam within 6 months of submitting your application. The exam can be retaken only once.
Anyone with an A1 or A2 or A or B1 license can obtain a B license by simply taking the practical driving test .
Practice driving with the instructor, either a person under 65 years of age, holding a valid license for the category for which you are applying, held for at least 10 years, or a driving instructor.
Complete at least six hours of driving practice on highways and/or rural roads, and in nighttime conditions, with a qualified and authorized instructor (at a driving school) . The candidate will be given a booklet, which the instructor will sign at the end of each lesson. This booklet, along with the certificate of attendance, must be submitted on the day of the practical exam.
Take a practical test, which can be taken one month after the date of issue of the driving license. The test can be retaken only once.
